"I really enjoyed my first training session at FYA on the topic of holding challenging conversations with young people and creating healthy boundaries. The group was very engaged, and it felt great being in a room where we were encouraged to share and explore different perspectives and contexts of our work with young people. The set up of the session was very interactive; we got to work both in smaller groups as well as having bigger group discussions. The Facilitator was very creative in choosing different exercises, which were both fun and mind-provoking. I took away a lot from the 3 hours and would return for another session."
Pia Barna, Project Lead (Kallo Project), UCL Partners
“I thoroughly enjoyed the engaging and participatory training offered by Fitzrovia Youth in Action. I liked the blend of theory behind youth participation with real life examples of how colleagues are applying the theory to their work. The session gave me an opportunity to reflect and celebrate the work my organisation is already doing in this area as well as offering lots of new ideas of what we could do next to better serve our young people”
Michaela Brooks, Education Account Manager, The Mix Connect
“Generally, the 4 sessions cover a great variety of elements of front line working through to strategic planning for young people engagement and empowerment to help you and your organisation walk the walk and talk the talk.
I am keen to look at how I develop the young people's empowerment and engagement at all levels of the work we do, from assessing and developing front line workshop delivery, to developing ambassadorial roles, trustee roles and so on."
Dave Barnard, Workshop Facilitator, The Peel Institute

Inkluder staff team
London Youth
FYA were commissioned by London Youth to deliver a Peer Mentoring Train the Trainer programme for 10 youth organisations pan London working with BAME young women for the Good for Girls programme. The training equipped professionals with the tools and knowledge on how to set up and implement their own peer support projects, bespoke to their work with young people. We also trained 50 peer mentors aged 16-25 from each organisation to learn how to support their peer's' wellbeing and design their own activity and discussion based mentoring sessions.
Southbank International School
We worked with staff from Southbank International School on co-designing a peer mentoring and peer support model personalised for their work with young people who attend their school. Teachers and support staff from different departments were supported to identify models that would work for their students and encouraged to set up a steering group of young people to coproduce with. We helped the school understand the different frameworks that could be used and models that would work for specific groups of students such as newcomers including a buddying system and peer support groups for students on topics such as exam stress and anxiety.

Inkluder
We supported Inkluder, a Community Interest Company based in Barnet, that provides support to young people that identify as LGBTQIA+ through our TTT programme. We provided them with information and guidance throughout the two-day programme and supported them in creating a peer mentoring framework they could implement that is tailored to them and bespoke for their audience. The feedback from the training was positive and young people have shared their experiences of attending peer mentoring training and peer support sessions, reporting that they have a safe space to talk about their experiences and the impact their sexuality and identity has had on their wellbeing. We supported the organisation and young people to identify other opportunities for youth leadership that can arise from peer mentoring programmes and Inkluder have started to identify other youth led opportunties for their members as a result.

Fitzfest
During the filmmaking process we had the privilege of capturing the essence of Scanner’s (Robin Rimbaud) sound installation, "Middlesex Voices," set in the historic Fitzrovia Chapel, once part of Middlesex Hospital. The film was commissioned as part of FitzFest, the annual community music festival celebrating the vibrant culture of Fitzrovia.
Our brief was to visually convey the immersive power of Scanner’s soundscapes while also highlighting the chapel’s rich history. Through thoughtful cinematography and sound design, we aimed to blend the haunting beauty of the space with the layered textures of the installation, offering viewers a connection to both the music and the setting. This project was about more than just documenting a performance; it was about crafting a narrative that weaves together art, history, and community. We captured the human side of the story through interviews with local residents, community leaders, and young people and the visual storytelling focused on both the physical transformation of the estate and the emotional journey of those living through it.
Finding Mental Health Support in Camden
Our brief was to work with young people to create a film to spread awareness of youth mental health services and show that these spaces are welcoming and supportive.
We visited various mental health services across Camden, capturing the environment and speaking with staff and young people about the help they provide. Our focus was on creating a film that not only informs but also reassures. Through carefully crafted visuals and conversations, we aimed to show that these are safe spaces where young people can seek the help they need without fear or stigma.
This project was about more than just documentation—it was about shifting perceptions. By highlighting the approachable and caring nature of these services, the film aims to encourage more young people to take that important step toward mental health support, knowing they have a community ready to help.
Building Equal Foundations Report
We produced this short film on behalf of the London Borough of Camden to support their Building Equal Foundations (BEF) report. This report addresses the council’s ongoing commitment to creating a more inclusive and equitable community for all residents.
The film aimed to bring the report to life by showcasing real stories and experiences from the people of Camden. Through interviews, personal narratives, and visual storytelling, we captured the essence of what it means to build a foundation of equality in a diverse community. The film highlights key initiatives and perspectives, emphasising the impact of Camden’s work on improving opportunities and breaking down barriers for marginalised groups.
Working on this project allowed not only to document the efforts of the council but also to craft a compelling and authentic visual narrative that reflects the values of inclusivity, resilience, and community action. It was important to ensure that the voices featured in the film truly resonated with the aims of the BEF report, and to present their stories in a way that feels both relatable and inspiring.

“I am so impressed by the work of Young Guardians and Community Champions and excited by what they might do next. This partnership between FYA, the residents as champions and us from the Youth Service has been inspiring and a testament to all involved, but also illustrates how important partnership work is in order to serve residents best. The projects have not only highlighted issues we can work on, but highlighted how much incredible work is being done by so many organisations and services already too.”
Eugene Griffin, Head of Camden Youth Service
“We commissioned FYA to work on a specific project to address the issues around attendance in our schools. FYA devised a comprehensive programme that included developing a video with Camden secondary students and also training them up to present the video in assemblies and support their fellow peers. We have found them engaging and responsive to work with, and I know our schools and young people have enjoyed the project immensely!”

Head of Business Development and Communications,
Camden Learning
Planning, Transport and Urban Design
Camden Council identified that young people had not engaged much in a consultation in the Regents Park Estate around healthier and safer streets.
Camden commissioned FYA to co-produce a youth-led programme in partnership with Sustrans. We helped young people design and lead an innovative and creative peer to peer outreach programme. Through a series of youth-led activities and events, our participants engaged over 60 other young people and obtained their feedback and ideas in how streets and open spaces could be made safer and more welcoming. The huge engagement numbers demonstrate the positive outcomes which can be achieved through involving young people in service planning and delivery.
Having heard how brilliantly young people were engaging in the consultation programme, HS2 approached FYA as they recognised more youth engagement was needed in the design of outdoor spaces. FYA was commissioned alongside LDA Design and social enterprise Matt+Fiona to recruit and support local young people to co-produce the design of a new garden and performance space on an unused site in West Euston. The design produced by young people reflects a collective vision for a safe, green, and multi-purpose space, intended for both play and performance. A pavilion will serve as the focal point of the gardens, with its design influenced by a proto-build session led by FYA, where young participants explored various materials, ultimately favouring reflective surfaces. The gardens are expected to open to public by the end of 2024.
School Attendance Campaign
Camden Learning in partnership with Camden Council commissioned FYA to co-produce a peer education and peer support programme to help address issues related to, and promote the benefits of, regular school attendance.
FYA trained students in years 7-9 from across 5 Camden secondary schools as Peer Mentors and Peer Educators. Young people discussed the challenges they themselves and their peers faced when it came to attending school and what the positives were, and how they could best support each other to attend and reduce some of the barriers to this. After training as peer mentors, the young people created a short animation film to raise awareness about what they had learned and as peer educators, delivered interactive workshops to other young people about the topic. Another film was made in the process of this project, as young people identified a specific issue they wanted to address - gaming addiction and the impact on school attendance. Over the school holidays, 21 peer educators delivered engaging sessions to 222 young people across different youth groups ranging from age 8-18, and in September the campaign was launched in schools.
Young people reported that this was a unique opportunity for them to have their say about school attendance, working collaboratively through youth action and with the council (Camden Learning) and their schools. Friendships were formed and peer support was a recurrent theme throughout the commissioned work. Participants both accessed support from each other as well as providing it, and took ideas back to their schools on how they can make positive changes to improve school attendance and help those struggling. As the campaign rolls out, schools are identifying students who are finding attending challenging, and FYA are helping them with planning their own youth led peer support programmes.
Community Safety
Camden Youth Services approached FYA due to the success of our Community Champions programme in engaging residents of all ages around issues of community safety and cohesion. FYA was commissioned to work in partnership with Camden Detached Team to co-produce a youth-led response to concerns around community safety for young people.
A group of young people were trained in contextual safeguarding, Street Doctors’ first aid and public speaking. Following this, the group created an animated film to help people to understand concepts of contextual safeguarding. Their film portray two scenarios of an imagined violent incident involving young people and show how bystanders can make a real difference.
FYA supported the young people to produce a training package, including three contextual safeguarding films and interactive resources, aimed at how the wider community can be active responders and active bystanders when incidents occur. To date, we have helped the group train over 90 professionals and community members, ranging from local residents to shopkeepers, teachers, council estate caretakers, youth workers, social workers, community workers and police and community safety teams.
